Hey guys, last night I decided to start the while crazy process all over again. This time with an AC-20 and my same 111v 40ah 30C lipo pack all tucked away into a 2008 Ninja 250.

Ted caught me in the act of tinkering and Cadding yesterday:

Here's where I'm at right now:

Same DeltaQ as before in the tank with the Curtis 1238 underneath the pack ala Zero. There are 4 modules visible in the Cad as the 5th fits underneath the seat.

I'm starting this having JUST moved to Boston from Miami. Trying to finish before I freeze to death.

Love the look of the new ninjas! This should be a sweet combo when it is done.

AH your not using Teds CAD (cardboard aided design)?

So my swingarm won't allow me to use a ginormous rear sprocket and I don't like the look of them anyways so I've decided to have a two stage reduction. I'm weighing my options for what to use for the first stage. Right now I'm between helical spur gears, straight cut spur gears, or a 1" wide H timing belt. What do you guys think?

Belt. Those gears will be noisy. A belt will also give you a little leeway in placement options.

what about a right angle gearbox and have the motor low on the chassis.

Have you considered a 420 chain and sprockets? You can get the same number of teeth in a much smaller package.

Meh, big helical bevel gears are hella expensive and it doesnt really help with placement. Maybe it would if I started the design all over.

Hadn't considered 420 chain, just seems kind of flimsy compared to #50 chain but might be enough.

Ed runs it on his bikes and doesn't seem to have any problems with it.

look around surplus center... they had some 1:2 ratio right angle gearboxes a while back, under $150.

I think the (rated) input RPM on those boxes is typically 1750. Not sure if they'll have anything at SS that would be suitable, but it's a good idea. If you can push those things harder I think it's worth considering.

why couldn't you push them over that? I mean, It's not like the thing is going to fly apart at 5krpm.

What about a planetary lifted from an automotive transmission? Attach to end of the motor. Makes it a little wider, but eliminates the jackshaft.

I don't know. I just seem to recall that when I was looking at them they all seemed to state 1750RPM input. And that was regardless of ratio. I've got a catalog at home so I'm going to take a look tonight.

There was a guy on youtube that put an AGNI in a 2009 Ninja, used a jackshaft (small belt). here it is,,,,

I would just use the 40 / 420 chain. I have 3 years & 3k+ miles on mine....looks new. Geared 12/72. A 72 #420 is MUCH smaller then a 72 #50.

Been researching and made the decision to run a 428 chain setup. Apparently it's a common conversion for "race" ninja 250's so there are cheap sprockets available. By far the cheapest, easiest way to go. Lets just hope it can put up with the current!

Thanks guys!

No it wasn't a dream. I mean I thought the part where Jennifer Aniston and Goku came flying through the sky and carried me to Chipotle was a little weird, but it definitely wasn't a dream. Pics and hopefully video (if I can find a camera person) coming soon!
