First: A big thank you to elmoto.net for being such a great site!

I've been lurking on elmoto since a couple of months before ver.1 went dark. I'm excited to finally stop lurking in the shadows and start to make some sweet sweet ev non-noise. The catalyst to my first post on el moto ver.2 was purchasing a used permanent magnet motor from a fellow member.

It begins!

Having great resources such as this site, John Bidwell's book, and Ted Dillard's book I feel pretty good that I'm going to make a good first conversion. That said, this EV stuff can be pretty overwhelming, I think its called the 'curse of choice', waaay too many many (expensive) options.

For now, I'm planning on a 72v 60Ah LiFePO4 system riding on a 1996 CBR600 chassis. The details are still being worked out and are probably going to be different than I envision right now.

Welcome moon!

You may know, John Bidwell is from Fort Collins...happens to be a really nice guy. And also check out Blindspot Cycles.

I'm from Boulder...we should hook up some time.

Welcome moon! Glad to have ya. I agree with your LiFePO4 choice, worth the money all the way. I also like ur chassis choice just cuz I like modern sportsbikes, they keep the weight down and give good volume for batteries.

Looking forward to helping u out and seeing youre progress!

Welcome!

I should have the K99 motor shipped out early next week.

Welcome Moon. I purchased the twin to that motor from Travis a couple of years ago. Travis is great to work with. I think you'll be happy with the motor.

Welcome to the adventure Moon.

Is the K99 a PM motor, I was thinking it's series wound? Great motor either way.

Must be an EV virus in the Colorado water supply.

The k99 is series wound, not sure where the Perm Mag came from... these are series wound. They'll work with a PM/Series controller, but don't get a kelly and expect regen. It won't work.

KDZ and KDC won't work, but an HSR model (http://kellycontroller.com/HSR.php) might. HSR is a series motor controller with regen.

Not that it's worth the cost/effort on a motorcycle, but series regen does exist.

i take that back.... from what I've seen it wasn't possibly with controllers currently being built. I have seen no one using a kelly on a series with regen.... yet.

probably a good reason for that - those controllers are really expensive and of questionable value (in terms of reaping much regen from a series motor)

Thanks for the warm welcome in spite of my glaring error about what kind of motor I'm getting soon. ;)

I was really tired. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.
:D

Moon, since you've been lurking for a while, we can skip the of "Rulz fer New Guyz" powerpoint show and get down to business:

Where are your moto pics?

Where are your moto pics?

Happy to oblige!

This is my first motorcycle and first motorcycle build, a heavily modded 1980 CB750F:

This is the start of my conversion, most of a CBR I originally planned to break down into parts for my CB-F. Here the future EV and ICE are together, living in peaceful coexistence not aware that they soon shall be bitter rivals.

Here's the CBR in the back of a Honda Element:

I'll start a proper build thread when the actual build process starts.
