This seems to be a recent popular topic. I recently bought a EV200 AAANA contactor and understand the economizer circuit elimiates the need for a supression diode. My question is: is the precharge resistor still needed?

Yes. Depending on the controller.

Which one do you have?

I have both Alltrax AXE7245 and Kelly KD72401. Will be using either one.

The Alltrax - YES. The Kelly I am not sure about, but most likely a yes too.

Unless the controller has built in precharge then you will need it. Curtis ac controllers and some sevcon have this. Alltrax afaik do not. Best to check the manual. If it shows precharge you need one. Totally separate issue from the diode.

Yup. Manual says need precharge.
