Hi :)

Newbie to the forum, and have been thinking about a project electric bike for a couple of years now.

Picked up the donor bike about 2 months ago - a 1986 Kawasaki GPz600R. I have owned a few Kawasaki's over the years and know the models reasonably well.

The 600R was chosen as a donor bike because it has a nice wide steel perimeter frame, which could lend itself well to battery storage. Also, the lower 2 frame rails are bolt-on, so this could also allow the use of a bolt-in battery cradle.

Anyway - here are a couple of pictures of the donor bike on the day it was collected......

The intention is to leave the bike looking as stock as possible - using all stock fairing panels etc. The only thing missing would be the stock exhaust. Most of the bike is in reasonable condition, so it should be a good base for an EV conversion.

I do have a lot of questions about battery types to use in this conversion - we don't seem to have the same range of EV LiPo batteries here in Oz that I see being used on the forum here ? I was intending to use an older-style power pack of 6 x 12v lead-acid batteries in this conversion.......

Anyway, looking forward to contributing here with this project :)

cheers
Dave

Nice... that does look like a good frame. Looks like I have another local to play electric bikes with :)

I think you might :) next suburb, the world is a small place. Looking forward to catching up at the next EV meeting and having a look at your RG conversion.
