View Full Version : Why isn't anyone using the 'RED' Headways?

Hello,

I haven't seen any examples of people using the 'RED' Headways. I know they are only 8Ah, but they're small and have a much better discharge/charge rate.

What's the go there?

Some of us are using them.

That is all I have in the Cafe racer although the earlier ones are Blue. They are all the 8AH HP versions.

I haven't looked at recent specs, but I remember that they were heavier (Wh/kg). So for me, it seemed like some other cell, with a high discharge rate, and yet low weight, would be a better option.

Hmm,
They weigh the same.

Thanks EVCycle

Yes they weigh the same as the 10ah so then they have a lower Wh/kg rating.

Oh yes, of course. But what's the point of carrying the same weight and having 20+AH extra if you can't draw as fast?

Well it depends on how you build your pack... I use the 10ah (mainly because the 8ah were not around) but in a 5 parallel pack I can draw up to 500 amps (according to spec). This works out at over 33kw output for my 120 cell pack which is well over what I need and can use. The same pack with the 8ah batteries would be 47.5kw but only 3.2kwh instead of my 4.1kwh.
If you have enough batteries in parallel so that the C rate you draw is not a problem then most people want the extra range.

Thanks Splinter, that's a great case of 'in practice' usage.

Guess they would only be a real benefit, it you had no other options but to make a weird shape pack.. ie: using every nook and cranny of a bike to shove cells into.

I like the black cells.

Noah, that's awesome. How did you make that?

A lot of CNC work. It's all in my KZE thread (they're actually blue 10Ah cells with black heat shrink)

That's awesome work. I can't believe the quality. Top notch.
