Im in st. Eustache. The build will be more focused once my front end is finished being built. I have respected the dimensions and parameters we have to adhere to with the quebec vehicle law. Once the project becomes a rolling chassis, then footpeg placement, seat height and handlebar placement will decide the rest. "

" Battery packs are on the way.

Here is a photo of what we are getting two of. They are the Gen2 Chevy Volt packs.
These are a larger version of what I have in the Cafe racer.

EVcycle created the thread The Juiced Drag bike progress post.
" Hello everyone !

This will be the thread that shows the progress as we build it. I will try to do weekly updates on how it goes.

For those of you that do not know us (Ed & Tammy - Juiced Drag Racing) We have been building and racing EVs for a while.

This bike it not going to rotate the earth. It will be fast enough to keep our need for speed happy, our retirement fund in check and
keep the other motorcycle bracket racers worried.

Smoky burnouts will be mandatory.

We are trying to build this in the 5 thousand USD range. I think with some help from a few friends and us doing 95% of the
build (I cannot paint that well ) we should make that happen.

The goodies:
A pro-built older, but perfect for this application, Kawasaki drag bike. The only Kawasaki parts (from a Ninja ZX-7R) are the steering,
front and rear wheels and the front brakes. It is Molly frame and very well built. It is set up for a 7" to 10" slick. We will be running
a 7" which is really 7.8" wide. It will meet the IHRA rules.

ME1507 PMAC Brushless Motor
Chevy Volt batteries set up for bulk and cell charging. It will be 116v or 130v. This voltage will be decided depending on the controller we get.
Right now we are leaning toward a Travis Programed SEVCON GEN4 SIZE 6 controller.

Paint - Chrysler Tangerine Pearl

The fun part will be getting all of this to fit. We have made measurements and a good plan, we will see how it goes.

Sorry, but I am old school, my cad file picture of the project is in my head.

Questions are always welcome. More later !

" Thanks Travis.

We are looking at all the options....

So far yours is the best... "

" I'd aim for 100V and 500-550A if you can. Nice sweet spot with this motor/controller combo.

The DVT Programming kit can allow some parameter changes on the fly easily. "

EVcycle replied to the thread More amps or more Volts?.
" I have looked at that controller (on your site), but I need to be able to program on the fly as track as conditions and rider confidence (Tammy) progresses.

Kelly has one too. (They sent me the info.)

I would have gone with a brushed DC motor, but we have burned up a brush set or two so it is time to go to the dark side....hee hee
Not many that I have seen ( still checking the internet) have done the drag racing with a AC motor, but the bike is light weight so it should work.

If nothing else we can do some good damage in the bracket racing side of things.

On a side note, I could get to pack to 116V 500 amps, but I would have to do some swapping around with the Cafe racer... "

" I don't know of other controllers that are tuned with that motor besides the Sevcon Gen4 series. The Size 6 is 550A 2 minute, 660A peak for 10seconds. That ought to do well for 660ft! That's at up to 116VDC. 130 is a tad high, and 67V is a tad low. I think you'd hit a wall with speed at some point. If you could aim for higher than 72V... and maybe 500A?

(Shameless plug, my company sells the Sevcon Gen4 controller, harness, contactor, programming cable and can program for the 1507) "

" ME1507 PMAC Brushless Motor - no controller yet

Hey Travis, That is where I was going with it. 660 feet of go go go racing.

I would like to have 300V at 1000 amps, but it is a small bike so there are battery limitations (and my wallet) "

" What motor is it?

Do you have controller already?

Usually the higher voltage, the higher it can go in the RPM range. But the higher current, the higher torque. "

" Back in the 80's I was riding a cafe'd out '78 Honda Hawk, always enjoyed dicing it out with RD400's, which ALWAYS kicked my ass... until I got my 500 Interceptor. Even the King (Kenny Roberts) ditched an RZ350 into the Pacific Ocean off Hawaii after test riding the RZ 350 and 500 Interceptor back to back! That was a fun bike! "
