" You'll have to enlighten some of us as to what a"T8F sprocket" is. The vari-drive is usually a waste of time and effort with an electric motor drive. Drive ratio wise you'll probably end up with something like this crude set-up:Attachment 8232
Don't weld sprockets to shafts like in this example! ebay is full of sprockets(for tooth belt and chain drives) and taper lock bushings to fit a wide variety of shaft diameters( English and metric), so you don't have to permanently attach the sprockets. "

" Hi
thanks for your support
Just finished mounting it the way shown above...
no pics yet as it was getting dark when done. But i will show the outcome. All save inside the tank and attached to batterybox.
Only a few more cables till a testrun may be possible. "

" I mounted my main fuse to the battery + attached to the contactor also. Located inside one of my batt box compartments:
Attachment 8230 Its hard to see, but the contactor is secured in dense closed cell foam rubber. There is a short length of cable to battery + and a piece of angled Cu on one side of fuse to attach the cable to
Attachment 8231
I don't see a problem with this idea, as long as there is no physical stress on the fuse itself and the contactor is securely mounted. Cheers!! "

" Hi
time for an update:
Got nearly all the 12 V cables done new. minus the indicator lights and CA in cockpit and Contactor switch to controller.
Been wondering for quite some time as how to prevent the upper pack from swaying sidewards (only attached generously on bottom).
While doing the Emergency cut off`s cutout it finally came to me.
Why not use the former Fuel intake opering- which had to be covered anyway -to arrest the battery?
Milled up a centering part and a new top (might get engraved in future).
Works brilliant:
Attachment 8227
(will show inner part tomorrow)

This houses the main fuse, aux charge plug and will house the charge plug for main bat..
Attachment 8228

In the meantime i am wondering if this direct connection of fuse and contactor really is advisable.
Or would it be better to use a short cable to enable some flex between the parts?
Any advise?

getting closer...

" Travis,

Thanks for the validation. In my links I also mentioned Dave from Alaska who used this motor at 72V successfully. Thanks for taking the time to read and respond.

I am serious about getting this put in good hands with someone that can afford the time to put it together.

That being the case I'm willing to let it go for pennies on the dollar. "

I believe that your motor is a separately excited motor only rated at 48 volts. I think that 72v might let the magic smoke escape. The controller looks nice, but I believe that it was used on the brushless Perm 120 motors in the Brammo Enertia bikes. I am not entirely certain that it will work with that motor.

You'd probably be better off with a part out. You seem to have an impressive list of components, but as far as I know, there may be problems putting it together.
Sigma makes both Sepex and some AC drives. In his links, he lists out the model of the controller (SET835M, SET I think stands for Separately Excited Traction). He states it was programmed by Barefoot Motors. I know that Barefoot used the Sigma Drive controllers on their ATV, and that Brammo was right down the street and there was some talking between the groups. Not surprised that the same brand controller was used in the Enertia.

Also, at 72V, the motor is fine, even possibly to higher voltage. It's wound specifically for 48V, but can tolerate 72V. Barefoot tested this with their 72V pack quite extensively if I recall correctly.

This is back maybe 2008/2009 or so. "

" Hi,
An update :
This is the scoot I purchased for 200Euro. Great nick really except, like I say, it has an intermittent spark issue and the ubiquitous oil leak
Attachment 8225

...and this is it once stripped down :
!Attachment 8224

This week I plan to finish tidying up the electrics ready for the Li-Ions, Motor and Controller etc...

I'm still not yet sure how I'm going to 'link' the mid-mount motor to the rear wheel. Th motor I've purchased has a max 5000 rpm which, from calculations, wont be sufficient with the existing vari-drive and internal-to-rear-hub 14:1 gear box but we'll see when I get that far !
I have stripped down the gearbox and see no way to 'bypass' it. Sure, I can lengthen the gears within it but initial calcs would indicate I can't lengthen them enough.
I have given a LOT of thought to removing the vari-drive and replacing it with a fixed belt arrangement but fixing the front belt pulley looks really restricted as the motor has a short shaft and a T8F machined head on it...
I'm now thinking about whether I can remove the var-drive completely and modify the rear-gearbox input shaft to accept a T8F sprocket directly. The challenge here is that it seems pretty impossible for the average DIY'er to remove the input shaft from the gearbox (in order to machine the T8F slotted head and nut thread... So... my little head is still working out the options, challenges, advantages and disadvantages of each here. Like I said at the outset, the idea here is NOT to simply throw money at the project but, rather, to keep the whole project within the remit of an average / competent DIY'er... otherwise I still foresee tons of these things continuing to be scrapped / not tried to be converted due to cost and difficulties etc... Having said all that I'm just as keen to make sure the final project isn't heath-robinson and is still quick enough etc to be worth-while doing ! We'll see... "

" Hi Stevo,
That sounds like the sort of functionality I was looking for. If possible I'd like a charger that I can 'limit' to cut-off at the 80% full point (or there abouts). I'm probably being retentive but I'm learning and...
I'll go take a look anyways and see what I come up with. Thanks. "
