" Great project! I wish I had one of those chassis to convert. Look at this retro conversion to get pack ideas. Don't write off the hub motor too easily. With a hardtail you don't have the same handling issues due to unsprung weight you might see with a hub in other applications and it would make a really clean conversion.

matchboxed created the thread Im keen to convert an Italjet 50cc bike and am very beginner.
" Hi All

Firstly, please excuse me lack of knowledge, I am just building it all up now.

I am thinking of embarking on a project to convert a 50cc kids motorbike into an electric bike. I have done quite a bit of research, but I would like to ask the community what their thoughts are on the following:

1. what size motor / or even what motor is recommended for the conversion?
1a. mid train / in hub?
2. is buying a kit often better than buying the parts individually
3. is it worth going down the rabbit hole of building my own battery too (i suppose it would depend on the fit required)

Many thanks in advance for any responses.

Richard230 created the thread More solid state battery news.
" This comes from an article in my newspaper today written by Peter Douglas, titled "Toyota May Be First to Deploy a Solid-State Battery". His article quotes another article in Nikkei Asia that was boasting that Toyota has developed a solid-state battery and will unveil a prototype next year. The Nikkei Asia article claims that "Toyota plans to be the first company to sell a vehicle equipped with a solid-state battery in the early 2020's". Nikkei Asia says that Toyota has taken out over 1,000 patents related to solid-state batteries, more than any other company. "

" ..I have completed the battery box.
Like this the whole assembly can be put into the bike without any wires "life".

The two red lines with fuse holders will connect to charger and dc/dc.

Also had a first go at the wiring scheme.
Some of you will find this familiar .. it s actually just a revised version of my sachs`s scheme.
The principle should be the same, only the connectors might need some redo.
Anyone care to have a look at it?

" Got the controller and the cable throttle mounted on a mock-up plate, and found an old 48V battery for testing. The throttle cable is a bit short still, hah.

But it works! Very happy now, finally some dynamic on this project. Though I have no experience with other controllers, but still I must say the Nucular is amazing. Very easy to set-up even for a beginner like me.

My BMS, cell holders, DC-DC arrived this week, and I found un-used but cheap INR18650-35E cells for my actual battery. So that's what's coming up next https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...57340e914b.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...7b1b64caf7.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...17084b64c6.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...5885019e6c.jpg

" Hi,
after the new crimp connectors arrived finally saturday evening (so much for ships overnight) i was set to tackle the last cell.
first of, a last mock-up topplate was milled from scrap to check the sit of the e-stop in relation to that last cell.
Attachment 8585

No more excuses.

This is where all has to go on to:
Attachment 8587

Place the last cell on top but set slightly back from bus bar to avoid shorts during the next step:
Attachment 8586

attache sens wires and don`t get confused, as there is now no visual with the underlying cell:
Attachment 8588

slide cell forwards and connect with the rest of the pack, put on fiberglass protectors, which mainly serve to prevent shorting when getting the pack into the bike-frame.
As can be seen the left one was milled to the wrong sice
Attachment 8589
cannot be bothered tonight, gonna cut it tomorrow, will connect up the e-stop then too.
