I'm trying to put together my purchasing plan and wondered if anyone could comment on the performance difference in two motors rated for the same voltage but different amps, i.e.:

The 450A system will have 50% more torque than the 300A (about 60 ft-lb for 450A vs about 40 ft-lb for 300A).
You can get both systems a lot cheaper from EV drives. I've bought several things from them and they're great.

My first motor was an ES-15-6...I still have it, sitting in the garage. I also have an ME1003 that's going in the KZE.
The ES-15 is a good motor. TONS of torque right off the line (as is typical of a series motor). It fits well in the GSX-R chassis. Stuck out the right side a couple inches, but that was fine with me. Since it's smaller diameter, it makes more room for batteries. I had it geared 4:1 and could hit about 65 mph (on a flat road). Acceleration was pretty good.
I replaced it with an AC-20, which is better in every way. It just costs more than twice as much.
I haven't used the ME1003 yet, but people really like that motor. On paper, it has almost as much torque as the ES-15, and spins up to about the same RPM (at 72V). The main difference is the shape. It won't stick out the side, but it will take up more room in the frame. It will be slightly more efficient, but overall performance will probably be very similar to the ES-15. It probably won't pull quite as hard off the line, but a lot of that has to do with gearing.
The ES-32C is a sepex motor (kind of like series, except the stator and rotor coils are controlled separately). The main difference is that it will do regenerative braking. Honestly, this gives you back very little unless you are on a long, steep downhill. It does make for a nice engine braking effect. However, people tend to say that sepex motors are somewhat flaky in EVs. Electric motor sport stopped selling them because they could never get them to work quite right.
The ME1003 can do regen, but not with an Alltrax. You'd need a different controller - and in that price range, Alltrax is really the best (Kelly will do regen, but quality is still questionable).
So there you have it. If you decide to go with the ES-15, I'd sell you mine along with a contactor (pm me). I was going to build a giant blender with it, but I've got too many other projects...
While I'd certainly enjoy a margarita made with that much power, I think I'd rather get my bike going. I'll hit you about taking that ES off your hands. Thanks for the input.
