Hmm. The battery has dropped voltage. Used to charge to 81v then settle to 79v. Now it will only charge to 75v - well below the curve. Time to unbutton it and see what I can find.
    Any guesses?

What is the best solution when one cell in a brick has gone bad?

The #4 cell in a 10 cell brick is only charging to 2v, the cells next to it are at 3.3. The #4 cell in (another) brick is reading 0v. They are in different sections of my 24s2p setup.

Should I just bridge over them to have a 23s2p battery?

Bad cells bridged over, now heading out on a short loop to test range...

75.7v starting voltage drops to 68.4v over the course of 15 miles (urban loop, mostly ~40mph with hard acceleration from lights). Used 24.5Ah. Definitely at the end of the range, started to see quicker drop off in voltage and drop in performance.

Amusingly, a gentleman in a new Model S P90D asked about the bike at a light. Wanted to if I built it, how fast it would go. I explained that it was a single speed, like his car, and that I had it geared for acceleration and goosed it. He laughed and then stomped his. The Telsa is much faster...

Is this a good time for the battery upgrade you were contemplating last year?

In contemplating a battery upgrade, I was reminded this weekend of how frustrating battery sag from the cold is. Tried to take my wife out for breakfast on the bike, but we had almost no power. Full throttle drops voltage down to 55-58v. It wasn't that cold, maybe 60 degrees, but it had been down in the high 30s overnight. I turned back in half a block as it wasn't safe enough to take on the road. I don't have a garage, so the bike sits outside.

If I'm going to do this again, I'd like to extend the useful season for the bike. What are el-moto's thoughts on insulation, heating blankets, or other ideas?

Would it help to charge the pack just prior to riding?

I have also had issues with cold weather voltage sag. Not sure what to do about it- Leaf cells are not designed for thermal management, and it would be wasteful to keep a hair dryer pointed into my bodywork all night. For now the bike lives in the laundry room. Ideally, a liquid heating and cooling loop would do the job, but that is tough to retrofit. I hear Volt cells have good thermal management traits. Maybe they are a good choice for this reason.

Maybe one of these thin reptile heating pads would work http://www.ebay.com/itm/Aiicioo-24-W...sAAOSwImRYCTVO
