Engine destroyed after 18000 kilometers

Hi!

I just learned from my dealer than my bike's engine is dead - it seems that it was faulty and magnets separated from the body of the engine and were crushed by the rotor. Did anybody experience this ? Any advice on how to get Zero to give me a new engine (obviously this is a very short lifetime, and related to a faulty part) ?

I think that is a known issue that caused Zero to improve the magnets of some of their motors. Zero had an official DOT recall two or three years ago regarding flying magnets. Dealers were instructed to test the motor to see if they failed or not. If they did, Zero would replace the motor with a new one that had improved magnets. I had my 2014 S Zero tested by my dealer and it passed, so all is good. You need to look up Zero DOT recalls to get the scoop. You can also visit the electric motorcycle forum for additional information. They have a dedicated thread regarding recalls.

Yes, that is the recall that I am aware of. It covered my 2014 S, but I don't know if it also covers your model. If not, you will need to ask your dealer to contact Zero and see what they have to say. What happened to you sounds exactly what the recall was supposed to address.
