View Full Version : The new V9

23 June 2013, 0939
We have been hard at work to produce an all new version in the Brutus line of motorcycles. This bike started from a clean drawing board but carries over the themes and feeling of the original bikes. We went big, really big this time around with a 9" Dc motor and a Zilla 1k controller, and room for up to 25kwh of battery power. I will list all the features and options as I get more time plus start posting more pics as the bike finishes up for the big unveil in Holister Ca. on July 5th. This bike will compete directly with Harley Davidson Road Glide or Electra models and come in at a price point the same or less than comparably equipped models. 4609

Ever wanted the sound and feel of a big block V8 between your legs? With the new V9 it is not just a dream anymore. The audio system has enough power to shake screws loose if they aren't tight! Also if you are not into annoying your neighbors you can play music and movies too!

Hello Brutus,

That is really awesome, one of the things that would be very interesting is to make a particular sound that will make your ride distinctively unique. I like cicadas.:o

With my luck I would reproduce the sound of their mating call and have horny swarms chasing me everywhere :)
I really like the sound of silence over a noisy bike but I figured this would shut up some critics who say electrics are too quiet, now they are not.

What we all have to do to convince people that Ev are "noise friendly".

Since I moved to Boulder City earlier this year I have really fallen in love with the special license plates you can get for your cars here. Unfortunately they don't make them for motorcycles. I made my own for the upcoming show and will put the real one on when I get back from the Hollister show.

I guess a progress shot of the bike would be nice too :)

Got Best Electric Bike at Corbin Bike Show today. I couldn't be happier.

06 July 2013, 2235
Just got back from Hollister and still can't sleep thinking about the great reception we got at the show, we still had people asking questions as we were loading it back up on the trailer to come home. 4636463746384639

Wow. Cool! Wish i could have made it to see it in person!

Hi all, I really can't imagine many of you being too interested in a premier biker event like Sturgis let alone bringing one of your bikes down the main drag of town during the week long event. However Brutus will proudly be there representing the elMoto crowd and showing 50% of the motorcycle purchasers in this country what an electric motorcycle can be. If you are close to Sturgis Aug. 5-11 I would love to see some fellow electric motorcycle builders and help me to promote the electric motorcycle community and also change the minds of die hard gas lovers like Gene and I did this last weekend.

What is that "exhaust" pipe under the rear left side for?

09 July 2013, 2221
That "exhaust" pipe actually sticks out both rear sides of the bike and it emits noise. We had it set up to sound like a V8 at the show and let it idle during the show plus give the occasional demo of how it works while riding. I thought of it more as a novelty in the beginning but after seeing crowd reaction and hearing what Craig Vetter had to say about it I think I will pursue sound simulation a lot more.

What did Craig have to say? Great looking machine!

What a great experience, hope to see more of the bike at shows!

10 July 2013, 1254
Great looking build! That's an electric bike I could see buying and it will look great in Sturgis!

10 July 2013, 1350
Right on, glad they liked the bike. Is the sound restricted to just coming out of the pipes or is it omnidirectional? I wonder that if the loud-pipe-saves-lives crowd is ready for pointing the sound makers forward where it would actually help alert cagers?

Thanks for the kind words,

Frank, Craig liked the bike a lot but saw the sound system as a real big asset not only for Brutus but the larger EV industry as a whole. Evidently quite a few of the big boys are working on similar systems.

Yankee,As far as shows are concerned I plan on making as many as I can this year and will continue to push for everybody in the industry where ever I show up.

Moon, It is pretty omnidirectional so it should keep the cagers on their toes :) I have been getting a lot of questions about the sound so I shot a quick vid on my phone to give a better idea of the sound now that the bike is done.

Chris is out enjoying Sturgis with the new Brutus V9. Cruising it around and generally just blowing minds. I'm sure he will be adding some updates soon.

From Chris

"4 stoplight drag races and 4 cruisers tuck tail as they lose to an electric lol"

Videos should be coming soon. Chris tells me he can no longer find anyone willing to stoplight race the V9. The bike is becoming quite the talk of Sturgis. He is really having way to much fun. (Hope a new batch of riders will come in so he can get video of one of the ICE vs the V9 smack down)

Got back from Sturgis today and put this vid together real quick before I crash for the next day or so. Enjoy the sights sounds and reactions from the untapped market. Got 3 more shows on the schedule for 2013 and possibly have a few chances to hit some more. Together we can all bring electrics to the main stream!

4851Here is an update with pricing for the base model V9.

https://www.facebook.com/pages/Brutus-Electric-Motorcycle/194396447264255?hc_location=stream (https://www.facebook.com/pages/Brutus-Electric-Motorcycle/194396447264255?hc_location=stream)

We are working hard to get the website up to speed with the new V9 and I am pleased to have a link to some of the specs on the new drivetrain, chassis, and battery systems.

The pricing page is a work in progress but the new V9 comes out with a base price of $32,490.00

Starting price for our V9 base model includes the largest battery pack on any production motorcycle 18.8 kWh.

If that isn't enough energy than a 33.7 kWh pack is also available in the LE/special order package.

All that energy is packed within the frame rails no matter how you option out a V9 so both bags are free to carry all the gear you need on your travels.

You will find that the new V9 is very close in size to American made baggers in the same class, but we are lighter and almost triple the power of any ICE equivalent.

Brutus had a special guest today. A true rockstar of the EV motorcycle world. Pictures posted soon. :)

Terry stopped by today and got to be the first person other than me to take the V9 for a spin. I had a great visit and look forward to spending more time with him in the future. Terry also gave me a great honor and asked me to sign his bike!491149124914

It's time for another rally and this one is in our back yard! Las Vegas Bikefest will be here next week and we have registered the V9 in the custom show on Friday the 4th and the baddest bagger in Vegas show on Saturday the 5th. There are no electric classes for these shows so we will be going head to head with all the gas bikes!

29 September 2013, 1454
Best of luck, Brutus. :)

29 September 2013, 1500
Yes- they should be worried there is no electric class...you have the leg up on all of them ;)

01 October 2013, 2225
Avon gave us a little shout out on Facebook.

01 October 2013, 2252
You really have some nice bikes. Wow. How about some sort of humming sound, that would like more like a jet turbine or nuke reactor? Tron-like buzzing or some sort of high-pitched jet sound wouldn't be the best option for these beasts I think. But a fake gasoline engine just feels a bit too fake, even if it sounds good. (Just my 2 cents.)

02 October 2013, 0037
Jet sounds don't rev the same way so it doesn't give the right effect. (I used to work with USMC Harriers)

We can do any of the above but it is much more a novelty then anything. We went with the blown Hemi sound since it seemed to get LOTS of attention when at a very busy and noisy show.

Fun part is playing with the sounds till you find the one you fancy. For me it is just the sound of wind rushing by while riding.

Ted did us a solid and penned a really good article for us over on his Blog, he has been pretty busy over there and the new look is awesome!
