An article in my newspaper today, written by David Undercoffler, of the LA Times reports that Kia has just announced an all-electric Soul. It is claimed to have a range of between 80 and 100 miles, a top speed of 90 mph, powered by a 109 hp, 210 pound-feet, motor. The 27 kWh battery pack is located under the car's floor and only slightly reduces the IC version of the car's cargo area. Level 2 recharging time for a fully-discharged battery pack is said to be five hours. It will have a "driver-only" climate control option that will blow warm or cold air only on the driver, should he wish to conserve energy by freezing his passengers (or empty seats). Standard gear will include an 8-inch touch screen navigation system, backup camera, Bluetooth connectivity and a power driver's seat. The Kia Soul EV will be available in mid- to late-summer in CA, OR, NY, NJ and MD. No price for the car was mentioned in the article.
