Agility Saietta unveiled, the decidedly unconventional electric sports bike

A new player has entered the electric motorcycle game, joining the likes of Brammo's Empulse but doing it with rather more... unconventional styling. It's the Agility Global Saietta, an all-electric sports bike that will come in two flavors: the 50 mile range Saietta S and the 100 mile Saietta R. The latter of the two will be quicker than the first, getting to 60 in under four seconds, whereas S riders will have to wait another tick of the stopwatch. Naturally that extra range and speed will cost you: £9,975 for the S and £13,975 for the R, figures that equate to roughly $16,200 and $22,650. Hefty sums, both, but nobody said being on the cutting edge of the humpbacked sport bike trend was going to be cheap. We weren't given any specific horsepower or weight figures, but we're told the power to weight ratio is 675hp per ton. You can make your own guesses about weight to try and get a firm power figure, but it certainly should be peppy enough.

I just saw that on the MCN teaser web site. I admire the Italians for their forward design thinking - but I doubt that design is going to sell very many units to typically conservative motorcycle buyers. It would look wonderful displayed in a modern art museum, though.

The styling, with all the junk up front, reminds me of the Dugally Soma which Hell For Leather (http://hellforleathermagazine.com/2011/01/why-the-dugally-somma-isn%e2%80%99t-ugly/) points out, doesn't look as strange when someone is sitting on it.

HAHAHahaaha: "We can practically hear your knuckles crack as you prepare to head into comments and type something along the lines of “I just threw up a little in my mouth” or “Nuke it from space, it’s the only way to be sure.” Took the words outta my mouth. Butt ugliest excuse for a bike I think I can remember ever seeing... both of them.

It might feel weird riding that at speed, normally a windshield/deflector moves the wind away from the rider. This body style seems ideal to channel it into you chest and body.

Have you every ridden a Feetforward harley stile cruiser? I'd bet this would feel very similar

Wow, that is ugly. I have seen a lot of ugly things done in the name of efficiency, but this is ugly just because.
Id be willing to bet it would be much more pretty naked.

I'll admit I found the design somewhat jarring at first. Perhaps I could go over to the dark side...depending on how it looks going down the road. Preferably through some esses. I was taken aback by the catfishedness of the Nissan Leaf at first but it's come to grow on me.

Crucially, Marazzi points out that the bike's appearance has been built around its handling capabilities, and not the other way around. Agility engaged top suspension designers from four major suspension companies very early in the design process and gave them free reign to design their dream suspension setups without regard for traditional looks.

I agree that it looks ugly, but from an engeneering perspective I give Marazzi props for focusing on the function over form. Sounds like the name, Agility, is the selling point and if it's as flickable as he says, it should be a blast to ride. I"m not hating the black & deep red as much.

That's a pretty interesting video interview, thanks for posting, Bonefire. Looks like the same battery configuration as the Brammo, 'cept maybe more- three rows perhaps?

I am impressed with the engineering and effort put into the Saietta, as well at the company's guts for making and selling a very unusually styled motorcycle. I wish them well, but that styling is not for me. It is just too far out. No doubt more than one Saietta will find themselves exhibited in a modern industrial art museum some day.
