    The Ohio State Buckeye Electric Motorcycle Race Team may not get all the pub that the OSU football has garnered of late, but that’s just fine with them. Instead of inciting controversy with record speed, the E-Bikers are content to simply set speed records.

    Formed less than a year ago, the OSU team recently set an East Coast Timing Association (ECTA) record for electric motorcycles in the Omega class, known as the altered partial streamlined class. The new certified record is 112.349 MPH, destroying the old record of 53 MPH. The ECTA, located in Maxton, North Carolina, is a one-mile concrete track specially designed as a place to run speed trials in the eastern half of the United States.

      Hehe, me too Dave! It was a great start for the team, but I am sure we can go much, MUCH faster. Just need to do more tweaking and tuning.

      Maybe Chip Yates and his Lightening team mates can give you some advice?

      The bike, named the RW1, is built on a 2007 MV AGusta F4 frame. It sports a Remy HVH250 motor controlled by a Tritium WaveSculptor 200 and powered by a 460 volt lithium battery pack, close to the voltage of a small electric car! The team still has a bit of work to do if they want to set a speed record for an unlimited electric motorcycle. Chip Yates recently hit close to 219 MPH at Bonneville on his Lightening Motorcycle superbike.
      I'm only posting this to see if Ted's head will actually explode.

      Still Sean, that's an impressive setup. Would love to be involved in something like that.

      Chip Yates has nothing to do with the Lightning team and was not involved with the 215.960 mph world record set by Lightning this year. Yates attempted to better the Lightning record but only managed 190 something mph but was clocked at just barely over 200 at one point.

      You know that, and I know that, and Ted knows that. I just wanted to know if I could hear the cries of anguish from 5000 miles away. Someone point him in the direction of the article.

      Maybe Lightening and Lightning are two different teams?

      Still, a pretty fast run. It took us well over a mile on a straight run to do 102. Did not know there was a old record of 53MPH....

      At that voltage they should be going even faster....soon. It is interesting they went with that high of voltage and only 35AH of battery.

      Are there any other specs on the bike? I would like to know the weight of the bike.

      Bike Weight = heavy

      Right now the team is working to get RW1 back to stock "wet" weight.

      784 Li-Po Batteries at 5Ah each, the entire pack weighs (just batteries mind you) about 180 lbs

      For a "hypothetical" 38mile race, this will put the team just below 400Watt-hrs/mile. Balls to the wall my friend if the bike can reach full power!

      I agree sir, 400Watts/mile does not make sense.

      ...... and thanks to Manzanita Micro with their phenomenal battery charger, we can continue to race!
