Richard230 created the thread Two Electric Kawasaki Streetbikes for 2023.
" It looks like Kawasaki will enter the 14.8 hp electric motorcycle street-legal market next year, according to this report from Motorcycle.com: https://www.motorcycle.com/new-model...-for-2023.html "

" Good news! It sounds like they are trying to help. I'm curious to why the motor has to be replaced...what was wrong with it?
You could try mounting some of these to get more use out of it:

flo replied to the thread Kawasaki zxr-E.
" Hi all,
so just two days before my holidays i was finally contacted by the supplier. After some 10 weeks...
I did send back motor and controller to be repaired and just received a mail that controller had been repaired and a new motor being on order...
Last time they told me, a new motor may take up to 20 weeks of which half would have been over by now - if they had reacted more swiftly..
Letīs just hope for the best .. which is the bike may just have a few days of use this year.....

Richard230 created the thread Proposed U.S. EV rebate law details.
" Attached is an article regarding the details of the proposed U.S. law recently approved by the Senate which is now heading to the House of Representatives for approval. It would give an IRS credit to people buying a new or used electric vehicle. However, the hooks in the law are enough to make my head spin. So I am attaching a copy of the article that was published in my newspaper today and I will let you try to figure it out to determine if the credit would apply to your next EV purchase.

I think that both Zeros and the LiveWire One might be eligible for the credit because they are assembled in the U.S., however there are a lot of other restrictions that might potentially disqualify them. These rules are definitely not as simple as they used to be in the past. "

Richard230 created the thread EV battery tech update.
" It looks like the new solid state electric vehicle battery technology is finally making it out of the lab (took long enough) and are starting to be assembled in experimental factories by various companies to see if they can be mass produced and will meet the future requirements of providing power to electric vehicles and other products. Attached is a two-page copy of an article printed in my newspaper today, written by Jack Ewing and published by the New York Times detailing the latest battery news. "

Richard230 created the thread No new gas bikes in the UK by 2035.
" The UK is proposing to prohibit the sale of new gas-powered motorcycles after 2035 as part of their zero-emission vehicle program. Here is the story: https://www.motorcyclenews.com/news/...an-motorbikes/ "

Stevo replied to the thread News of Triumph's EV prototype progress.
" I think the decision is because battery technology just isn't up to the necessary standards that they require for EV motorcycles to be successful against petrol.
The rest of the EV technology is being held hostage!!
We need better batteries, full stop "

I don't know abut the IOM, but Triumph says that they don't plan to sell the TE-1 to the public. They say in a video interview that if they came out with an EV it would have less performance and range, presumably to get the price down and sales up. Something like a scooter or city bike was mentioned. So don't get too excited about Triumph's EV plans for the future. I suspect the TE-1 was powered by a government grant. "

" 2 YEAR UPDATE !!

Hello everyone...
Just a quick update after 2 years of almost daily use commuting to work (5 miles round trip)...
Attachment 8739
After 90 charge-discharge cycles and 2500 miles...
The delta between highest and lowest cells is only 0.031 volt at the bottom and 0.055 v at the top fresh off the charger.
I only had 2 minor problems since the last update, one of which was a real head scratcher. Intermittent electronic problems are a real PITA to locate!!
The first problem was about 6 months ago.
I noticed that my temp sensor on the negative terminal of the battery pack was getting abnormally hot during charging.
Attachment 8740
It usually never gets over 76-78 degrees F during the entire charge cycle. But for some reason I started to see temps in the upper 90's
I had to disassemble my left side battery box to re-tighten the negative cable terminal that had vibrated loose. It was barely loose, but I guess just enough to cause the heating issue. I never had any issue with the bike not running well.
It's definitely a good idea to strategically position some temp sensors at different locations in your battery pack!!
The second, very recent problem was that my headlights kept turning off on my ride home at midnight. This was completely intermittent, unrepeatable, and self correcting. I tried wiggling wires and harness connections, sometimes making the lights go off/on, or no effect at all. I re-wired the headlight harness, rebuilt the connectors and rechecked the entire 12 v circuit as well as the 100v side. The problem persisted even after going through all of the wiring with a fine toothed comb (and my multimeter)
I think the Sevcon DC-DC converter has an intermittent problem. The printing on the device states 80v to 13.4v .... So maybe it doesn't like the 20v overvoltage of my battery pack
I replaced it with a much lighter and smaller Vicor and have since had no more headlight issues
Attachment 8741
I suspect that these cells will easily last me a few more years until better batteries come our way
Ciao!! "
