    BMW R1150 GS Conversion

    Hi All,
New to the forum, but planning on converting a BMW R1150 GS to electric for some fun. I rode one around the world for 3.5years, and thought this might make a nice conversion project. Is anyone aware of anybody else who has done this, as I can't find anything on the net?
ELMoto website looks great, and hope to pull on a few resources and hopefully make some connections (personal and electrical) to help along the way.
Thanks for any thoughts or guidance you can provide.
    Cheers,
    Rik

I think someone here gave that a try a couple of years ago. I know there is a thread with photos of the conversion on the forum somewhere. I just don't know how to search for it. I bet someone else does. Not an easy build, though. It should keep you busy during a few cold winters.

Welcome and I wish you success. There are a few guys on here that were working on these, but I don't think anyone has completed their projects. Mating the electric motor to the shaft drive seems to be quite the technical challenge.

Thanks Richard, well I live in Wales, so no doubt there will be some cold nights!! Approaching the Spring now though, so hopefully a few evenings when the weather not so good for a ride out! If you happen to hear or remember who tried it, would be really interested to connect.
    All the best, Rik.

Thanks Stevo, if you remember / hear of who they were, would be great to connect. Wonder what they were planning to do for the motor connection to make it complex technically? I was thinking of building a structure to replace the stressed IC engine, then a motor with some form of bellhousing on the end to mate to the driveshaft. The suspension pickups and so on could be a challenge to get those right, but I'm only thinking at the moment, so maybe I've not hit the challenges yet - love a challenge, so crack on! ;-) All the best, Rik.
